Editorial Reviews

The Vatican may be one of the most famous places in the world, but it's also among the most mysterious; very few people have seen what lies beyond the Vatican's walls, and even fewer journalists have had free access to the tiny walled city that is the home of the Catholic Church. In 2001, National Geographic was given permission to enter the Vatican with a camera crew, and National Geographic: Inside The Vatican examines the city's 2000 years of history, as well as documenting the Vatican's historical archives and documenting private chapels which had never before been photographed to viewing by the public. Martin Sheen serves as host and narrator. Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

April 06, 2005: The National Geographic name guarantees quality - and this one does not disappoint. But this is not an examination of Pope John Paul II and his legacy -- this is a more general look at politics and life inside the Vatican.

April 04, 2005: It is magnificent to see the Vatican and the amount of history inside. I am so proud to be a Catholic after viewing this. In light of Pope John Paul II's death, I am so pleased to know that he led a life that was more than comfortable. He has suffered so much and gave light, peace and love to everyone he came in contact with. He was a man of humble beginnings, and I am sure he was not impressed by the extravagance of his surroundings, but appreciated their beauty.
