Full Product DetailsAlthough the conceit of "real-time" entertainment has enlivened such big-screen experiments as Alfred Hitchcock’s Rope (1948) and John Badham’s Nick of Time (1995), it had not been tried on the small screen until 24 cast its spell over audiences in the 2001-2 season. And while its first-season ratings never soared, 24 was embraced by critics and quickly developed a loyal fan base. The monumental struggle of counterterrorism agent Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland) became titillating water-cooler fodder, as he sifted through a complex web of kidnapping, assassination, and conspiracy week after week. The controversial finale to the debut season (if you don’t know it, we’re not telling) still has fans abuzz with disbelief. This six-disc collection contains all 24 first-season episodes, including an alternate ending to the season finale, plus an introduction from Sutherland. For fans of 24, or those who’ve only heard whispers of its ingenuity, having the ability to watch the season uninterrupted is a true luxury -- one of the myriad advantages of the DVD format. About 24 - Season 1
Parents need to know that this very addictive series is all about terrorism. The violence is relentless, albeit mostly bloodless, and the lead character is rarely remorseful. Villains are sometimes portrayed stereotypically, although, in general, the show depicts women and minorities without bias. Discussion of sex is common, but not a major plot element. Because 24 is expressly designed to be addictive, parents not wanting their teens to watch all 24 episodes, should probably not let them watch even one.
