One of the Disney Channel's most popular series makes its DVD debut with this five-episode mini-marathon. Dylan and Cole Sprouse star as 12-year-old twins Zack and Cody, who live the carefree, run-amuck life of Eloise at Boston's swanky Tipton Hotel, where their mother (Kim Rhodes) performs. Zack and Cody are a tween Odd Couple: Cody is "sweet and sensitive," unathletic, and "good at math"; Zack is a hapless hustler whose schemes are usually a prelude to getting the pair grounded. The Tipton is also home to exasperated manager Mr. Moseby (Phill Lewis), wacky janitor/inventor Arwin (Brian Stepanek), responsible candy store clerk Maddie (High School Musical's Ashley Tisdale), and spoiled, self-absorbed hotel heiress London (any resemblance to Paris Hilton is probably not coincidental). In "Rock Star in the House," pop idol Jesse McCartney causes Hard Day's Night havoc among the guests, including Zack, who sneaks into Jesse's room in search of personal items he can sell "on the street." In "Kisses and Basketball," Zack's friendship with a tomboy teammate is fouled up when she kisses him after a big win. In "Odd Couples," Maddie helps London try to impress a visiting merit scholar (High School Musical heartthrob Zac Efron). In "French 101," all's fair in love and war when Zack and Cody vie for the attentions of a French girl. In "A Midsummer's Nightmare," romantic confusion reigns onstage and off during a school production of Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream. Like That's So Raven, The Suite Life is TV fast food; easy to digest but nutritionally empty. The occasional clever line and odd bit of business (such as an homage to A Night at the Opera's classic stateroom scene in "Odd Couples") may keep adult viewers from demanding an early checkout.
