    Editorial Reviews

The American Sign Language Learning System is a two-DVD program that includes an American Sign Language dictionary on a CD-ROM that also contains learning activities prepared by Dr. Marin L. A. Sternberg, Ed. D. The first of the DVDs, "Getting Started in Signing," offers instruction from Dr. Elaine Costello and is focused on everyday use of ASL in communication. The second DVD, "Say It by Signing," expands on the practical basics of Disc 1 with dramatized dialogues, each introduced by Costello and presented once with subtitles and once without them. The CD-ROM provides a wealth of supplemental material for those who master the DVDs, including not only the dictionary and an ASL overview but also a section on finger-spelling and various self-tests. Designed for learning at one's own pace, The ASL Learning System earned the Software Publishers Association's Codie Award in 1995 for "the best educational tool program.", Barnes & Noble
