Editorial Reviews

Sesame Street's goodwill ambassador, Elmo, hosts this upbeat and reassuring program that will leave toddlers flush with the excitement about learning to use the potty or toilet by themselves. Reassuring words, comical vignettes, animation, and encouraging songs foster themes of independence and perseverance ("It just takes time," is a sample lyric) while fostering a sense of pride and accomplishment, not just in using a potty but in the many things kids learn to do as they grow, such as hitting a baseball and tying a shoe ("Look at what you can do now"). Viewers are encouraged to "listen to your body" and are reassured that "accidents do happen sometimes." Other songs ease the transition from diapers to training pants and underpants, and promote good hygiene habits -- a tour of a toilet paper factory is a fun diversion. A montage of the many different age-appropriate names children have for bodily excretions will produce giggles. This is a lot to fit into a 45-minute program, but all the themes are indelibly reinforced in the progress of Baby Bear's sister Curly, who, by program's end, will have successfully used the potty for the first time. As Elmo states, "When you gotta go, you gotta go." Elmo's Potty Time will make this rite of passage a positive experience. It is certain to be No. 1 one with viewers; and perhaps No. 2 as well. February 06, 2010: I bought this for my Granddaughter--it is her favorite video. Elmo & friends do a great job explaining how & when to use the potty. My granddaughter is only 20 months old but already is grasping the idea of using the potty chair. I would reoommend for the toddler starting to use the potty.

December 05, 2009: My grandson loved getting this for his 2nd birthday!! I don't know how well it works as a potty training aid but he sure loves watching it! It was an excellent price and I already bought another Elmo DVD for him for Christmas. His parents can't afford cable so this gets him that all important PBS time.
