Editorial Reviews

The enormity of HBO's Emmy-winning miniseries Band of Brothers was overshadowed in the weeks after September 11, 2001, when it completed its miniseries run. A little distance and a stunningly packaged five-DVD set help cast in new light this take on Stephen E. Ambrose's bestseller about Easy Company's incredible journey through World War II. The filmmaking is often visceral, yet the extended format allows the ensemble cast to grow, and the sacrifices of these heroic soldiers become palpable. The vivid drama doesn't let up in the extras here, as tales of struggle and redemption abound in "We Stand Alone Together: The Men of Easy Company" -- the best of the DVD's multiple documentaries. It's all heartrending stuff. Barnes & Noble

January 24, 2010: Perhaps the best representation of the horror of combat. Shows true relationships of the men with each other and their officers above them. Was the most realistic portrayal of men in war I have seen.

This review was written about the DVD Wide Screen / DTS edition.

I Also Recommend: Saving Private Ryan, Flags of Our Fathers, We Were Soldiers.

January 24, 2010: I thought this miniseries was just wonderful, however, when I purchased this DVD on barnesandnoble.com, someone was able to steal my credit card information from the website and buy a lot of nice, expensive items for themselves and their family for Christmas. So I would be wary before I bought anything on their online site because it leads me to believe that the site is not entirely secure.

I Also Recommend: Saving Private Ryan.
