This DVD box set boasts a quartet of muscle-bound hits starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, the first Austrian bodybuilder-turned-actor to become governor of a large western state. In Commando, Schwarzenegger portrays a retired colonel attempting to hunt down the Latin American dictator who kidnapped his young daughter -- a role that showcased the actor's comic abilities. It's back to Latin America again for Predator, which casts the "Austrian Oak" as a military special forces operative whose team encounters a mysterious, possibly alien foe. Running Man -- a futuristic sci-fi thriller based on a Stephen King short story -- remains among Schwarzenegger's gems. Presaging the rise of reality TV, it offers Arnold as a convict chosen to participate in a show -- wherein he can gain his freedom, if he can evade a gauntlet of assassins. The Paul Verhoeven sci-fi extravaganza Total Recall rounds out the set: Here, our star discovers he has been programmed with false memories of his earthbound existence and is actually a secret agent entangled in a proposed rebellion on Mars. August 10, 2003: It's one of the top selling documentaries of all time, and why not? It's a great story and visually the most interesting bio I've ever seen.
