    Editorial Reviews

Arguably the screen’s definitive statement on the punk-rock phenomenon, Sid and Nancy chronicles the sordid, self-destructive relationship between British rocker Sid Vicious and American groupie Nancy Spungen. As the flamboyant, mercurial lead singer of the Sex Pistols, Gary Oldman is ideally cast and undeniably authentic. But his star-making performance is certainly equaled by that of Chloe Webb, whose turn as the painfully insecure, love-starved Nancy still raises lumps in viewers’ throats nearly 15 years after the film’s theatrical release. Director Alex Cox (Repo Man) depicts their story with a documentarian's fervor, re-creating the Swinging '70s with all due emphasis on sex, drugs, and rock 'n' roll. Cox finds humor and tenderness in this romance, but he doesn’t gloss over the squalor and despair that characterized the couple's waning days. Distinguished by this unflinching commitment to exposing the dark side of punk-rock culture, Sid and Nancy becomes a tragic but unforgettable drama -- a cinematic elegy mourning two people for whom too much was never enough. The DVD features both wide-screen and pan-and-scan versions of the movie, as well as the original theatrical trailer. Ed Hulse, Barnes & Noble

July 31, 2006: An interesting film and Garry is great as always in the lead role however the film got a lot of its facts wrong and after just reading john lydons book Rotten I find that john was not consulted about the film the director got many of his facts from those who barely knew Sid

September 08, 2004: wow. that was such a great movie. And you know what? I got the ending. The taxi cab part. That was them dead. woah I feel smart. But that was good. The stabbing scene wasn't too acturate. But then again, there are so many different stories of what really happened. i guess they had to pick one. Ok. buy this movie. It's worth the $20.
