Editorial Reviews

Most fans of the 1990s sketch comedy series In Living Color would agree that the release of the show's Season 1 DVD has been a long time coming. When the series launched in 1990, it instantly became a hit among those who like their comedy irreverent, political incorrect, and -- on occasion -- crude. Prior to In Living Color, NBC had taken ownership of TV sketch comedy with Saturday Night Live. By taking the concept to prime time and bringing an African-American edge to the concept, Fox proved that there was room for alternative comedy on TV. Created by Keenen Ivory Wayans, the show served as a springboard for the likes of David Alan Grier, Jim Carrey, Jamie Foxx (in Season 2), and Keenen's brothers Damon and Shawn (and, later, Marlon). The series was also the first taste of the spotlight for a little girl from the Bronx named Jennifer Lopez, even if only as "Fly Girl," dancing in the background to choreography by future actress Rosie Perez. Memorable recurring sketches like "Men on Film," "Homey the Clown," and "Homeboy Shopping Network" all make their debuts in this first season, which runs 13 episodes. Lisa C. Hageman, Barnes & Noble

August 13, 2004: This is comedy at its best. The talent was pure and raw. Look at how each one has come into their own! You can't stop laughing. I was dissappointed that Jamie Foxx was not in this series but it was still good. I can't wait for the next series.

April 08, 2004: Think that concept is silly? When the public rediscovers this fabulous show and the Homey the Clown Movie is released later this year, popularity may demand it. This box set is great and will remind you what sketch comedy is all about. Remember the days when Saturday Night Live was Consistently funny? I'm not old enough to either. There is an In Living Color moment for everyone. This is a must have.
