In this follow-up to her enormously successful Mat Workout Based on the Work of J. H. Pilates, Denise Austin melds the principles behind that program with yoga basics to create a head-to-toe shaping, stretching, and toning fitness program for beginners to intermediates. As in the Mat Workout program, Austin promotes the abdominal muscles as "the body's core of strength and energy," with added attention to reshaping body lines and improving flexibility. The video includes two distinct workouts -- Power Yoga and Power Pilates -- each of which runs 20 minutes. In the former, Austin presents a series of traditional yoga postures, emphasizing fluid movements intended to build power and stamina. It's not the most meditative yoga outing you'll find, but most likely nobody expects that from an Austin episode, anyway. The second, more invigorating workout is an ab-blasting, butt-busting routine that serves as a great introduction to Pilates. When used as intended with three-pound weights, Power Pilates should help to sculpt your arms, chest, and shoulders. Barnes & Noble

March 25, 2003: I got this tape yesterday and did the first routine right away. I'd never done some of the moves before, and when I was finished I was a little worried -- my back felt overly stretched. I popped some aspirin and hoped I wouldn't be in agony today. Surprise! This morning I got up without any back pain or stiffness whatsoever for the first time in about 2 years. Whatever it is, it works.

January 16, 2003: I'm a college student and I've always enjoyed exercizing with Deniese Austin. I like her as an aerobics instructor and that's why I bought this video but I found she moves from one position to another rather quickly like an aerobics instructor and it was not what I had expected from this yoga video. Her strength is definitely aerobics. However, I would perhaps recommend this video to my friends because she has such an enthusiastic personality. It depends on what you are looking for...
