Oprah Winfrey began her career in 1973 in Nashville, Tennessee, as WTVF's youngest -- and first-ever African-American -- news anchor, before moving in 1976 to Baltimore's WJZ, where she took over the chat-fest People Are Talking in 1978. In 1983, Winfrey moved to Chicago's WLS to host AM Chicago, which within three years would become The Oprah Winfrey Show, roll out nationally via syndication, and begin to leave former 800-pound daytime talk gorilla Phil Donahue in its go-girl-next-door dust. It's hard to pick a favorite from such an incredible parade of TV magic, but Mary Tyler Moore's surprise appearance in 1997 is hard to beat. When Winfrey was first pursuing her TV dreams in Nashville, Moore was depicting Mary Richards, WJM Minneapolis TV news producer, in the top-rated Mary Tyler Moore Show: When Moore just happens to walk onto the set unannounced in the middle of the show, the look on Oprah's face is priceless. March 01, 2009: I am enjoying this DVD collection. I am already a big fan of Oprah. I remember many of these shows. However, it was great to revisit clips from these shows and to see parts of shows I have missed. I've cried, laughed, and have been inspired by some "aha" ideas. So glad I purchased this collection! I am still enjoying it.

August 14, 2007: I actually checked this DVD set out of my local library on a "whim". After attending 4 or 5 separate "Live Oprah" shows while visiting my best friend in Chicago over the years, I just simply became all "Oprahed-Out". I pretty much stopped watching the show. I must admit that watching the many hours of shows of this DVD set was extremely entertaining. I was especially surprised about Oprah's lack of support of OJ Simpson - she actually thought he was guilty. It showed the live verdict and then the responses of the audience members to it. I also enjoyed all the celebrity interviews, especially JFK Jr. I would probably never buy this set but if you can get it at the library or rent it- definitely worth viewing.
