    Editorial Reviews

Cute but never cloying, and precious without being precocious, Charlie and Lola is a joy to behold. Children as well as parents will embrace this British animated series based on Lauren Child's books depicting a loving and nurturing sibling relationship. "I have this sister Lola," Charlie delightfully begins each story. "She is small and very funny." But Charlie does admit that helping his parents out with Lola can be tricky, as is evidenced by the story titles included on this volume, among them "I Am Not Sleepy and I Will Not Go to Bed," "I Want to Play Music Too," and "You Won't Like This Present as Much as I Do." Happily, Charlie is clever and patient. In the latter tale, he helps birthday girl Lola realize that her desire for a musical jump rope isn't practical, and in "But That Is My Book," he helps a disappointed Lola turn the page when her favorite tome has been checked out of the library. "Boo! Made You Jump" is a playful story about how much fun it can be to be momentarily scared, especially when Lola turns the tables on Charlie. The imaginative collage-style animation and the child actors' charming British accents will further captivate viewers. Donald Liebenson, Barnes & Noble
