Editorial Reviews

Also released under the title Young Sherlock Holmes and the Pyramid of Fear, this film follows the adventures of young John Watson (Alan Cox) when he is shipped off to boarding school and meets up with the brilliantly bizarre Sherlock Holmes (Nicolas Rowe). The two boys strike up a friendship and promptly become involved in the investigation of a number of mysterious murders. When their curiosity gets them into trouble with a dangerous religious cult, Watson and Holmes must struggle to avoid capture while attempting to notify the authorities. November 12, 2009: I went in skeptical, but the movie soon proved me wrong. It has a wonderful balance of humor, suspense, and ...sad stuff. The special effects are good, and it does a wonderful job of explaining why Holmes is the way he is in the other stories.

If you liked "Harry Potter and the Sorceror's Stone" and "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets" you'll love this movie!

I Also Recommend: The Monster Squad, Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, Sherlock Holmes, Harry Potter Limited Edition DVD Collection: Years 1-5, Explorers.

October 27, 2009: This piece of 80s escapism from producer Steve Spielberg was always a favorite of mine growing up. It's got a perfect mixture of mystery, special effects, and scares to excite a 12 year old boy, but does it hold up? You bet it does! It also includes a wonderful score by Bruce Broughton that is a plus! So grab some popcorn and turn off the lights and remember what is was like to be 12 years old!
