Get into the zone with a workout designed with the beginner in mind. Another release from the popular Yoga Zone series, this one takes viewers through the basic positions, like "the cobra," "the triangle," and "the cat." Two 20-minute sessions make it easier to learn the basics and prevent discouragement. Another nice technique is the outdoors setting and the teacher-pupil dynamic employed by the instructors; one person does the routine while the other gives tips and techniques on proper form. The yoga-newbie will also learn the importance of breath, the most fundamental aspect of this eternal and eternally fresh approach to fitness and relaxation. ~ Leslie Birdwell, All Movie Guide All Movie Guide

February 14, 2006: This is a good dvd if you are just beginning yoga or haven't done yoga in a long time, but want to get back into it. I'm trying to lose weight and I find yoga challenging, but not impossible to do.

August 08, 2005: I read some reviews on other sites that made this DVD sound a bit too simplistic and others rave about it. I am a raver! This instruction taught me proper posture and breathing sequence of moves. I have done other so called beginner DVD's and even though they are a beginner series, there tends to be no direction of proper positioning and how to move in the area you are stretching if it hurts you. The moves just tend to be simple and even though you try to follow along you need to watch the tape while doing the exercise since you don't know the names of the moves yet. This does not make for a smooth workout. And I also learned I had been doing the moves all wrong with the incorrect understanding of what each sequence of moves does for the body. So I was hurting myself as well. My husband who I am introducing to yoga with me, is extremely stiff and has lower back pain. Other beginning series do some twisting moves while sitting up or standing and I have since found out after doing those tapes a few times, this is very bad for his lower back. This series by Yoga Zone, assists in precise positioning of all body parts, shows alternative moves for the severely stiff, and only does one lying down twist which is safer and gentler for the lower back. Most of their postures are geared toward strengthening and stretching the back muscles. The Positions are held for a perfect amount of time and you move slowly through each move allowing you time to get into proper position. I can see how this tape might be boring for those who said it was too slow, but this is not power yoga, but beginner basics for proper form with it done safely. I love this tape and my husband is still very stiff but found the moves easier and less aggravating to his back. This DVD also offers chapters of different poses you can skip to or you can do one of the 2 20 minute workouts at different times of the day. We do the practice 2 in the morning to stimulate energy, and Practice 1 at night for relaxation. I can't wait to move on to Yoga Sculpting by yoga zone. Get this DVD if you really want to be guided to perfection and learn proper form and names of each position so that you can move onto other DVD's in the future without hurting yourself through improper form. Namaste!
