Editorial Reviews

British retiree John Thaw and his wife Lindsay Duncan spend a Year in Provence in this TV miniseries. Each episode covers a single season of the couple's experiences in their new home in the south of France. Purchasing a 200-year-old farmhouse, Thaw and Duncan must undergo the usual rigors of restorations and adjustment. They also come to understand the fancies and foibles of their new neighbors, many of whom seem to be refugees from a Rene Clair musical. Most pleasurable of all, the couple is permitted to partake of eating and drinking experiences that they'd never dreamed of in their staid previous existence. A Year in Provence is based on two autobiographical novels by former London businessman Peter Mayle. Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

12 Wonderful Hoursby Anonymous

October 04, 2009: Video version of Peter Mayle's best selling book of the same name. Story is divided into 12 hourly episodes, one for each month in the Mayle's 1st year of their adventure of abandoning professional lives in London for life in Provence. We suggest watching an hour each week and just let yourselves be seduced by the beauty of Provence. NOTE: No sex, foul language or violence. Just a very pleasant and amusing story of two Brits coming to terms with what it means to live in Provence.

April 06, 2009: This DVD is very much like the book. I feel the actors were a wonderful choice for their parts. The movie gives an voyeuristic view of the lives of this couple making a life for themselves in Provence, France. They leave England and start fixing up a beautiful old farm house in the countryside. The characters they meet and have to deal with teach them things about their new country and their new neighbors that are priceless and entertaining.
