Season 3 of Will & Grace closed with something of a cliff-hanger: Jack (Sean Hayes) learned he had a son, Elliot (Michael Angarano), conceived with his donated sperm; while Grace (Debra Messing) was dealing with her boyfriend, Nathan (Woody Harrelson), moving in. As Season 4 picks up, Elliot starts to become an important part of Jack's life, and their relationship is central to several episodes. Grace and Nathan's relationship, meanwhile, slowly disintegrates. Meanwhile, Grace's best friend, Will (Eric McCormack), continues into another season without a boyfriend, and Karen's (Megan Mullally) unseen husband, Stan, gets into trouble with the law. When he’s arrested for tax evasion in "Prison Blues," Grace moves into the mansion with Karen to help her cope and gets addicted to the extravagant lifestyle. "Rules of Engagement" finds Nathan popping the question at an oddly timed moment, causing Grace to overreact and eventually break up with him. In "Moveable Feast" the gang decides to visit their families -- guest stars Debbie Reynolds, Lainie Kazan, Beau Bridges, and Blythe Danner, among others -- with typically crazy results. "Dyeing Is Easy, Comedy Is Hard" turns serious when Elliot's mother (guest star Rosie O'Donnell) confronts Jack and tells him not to see the boy anymore. "Fagel Attraction" features Michael Douglas as a cop interested in Will, along with the wonderful Molly Shannon, who returns as psycho neighbor Val. Douglas’s Fatal Attraction costar, Glenn Close, turns up in the next episode, "Hocus Pocus," portraying an eccentric celebrity photographer whose portrait of Will and Grace causes unexpected developments. And in the well-written -- though slightly depressing -- "A Buncha White Chicks Sittin' Around Talkin'," Will and Grace talk about having a baby and then decide to act on it in the season finale, "A.I.: Artificial Insemination."
