Special make-up effects wizard Bob Keen, the same man responsible for creating the limber lycanthropes in Neil Marshall's Dog Soldiers, returns to design the moonlight monsters featured in this tale of five friends who go for a hike in the Scottish highlands, only to find themselves fighting to the death against a hungry werewolf. Teenage mother Kelly Ann (Samantha Shields) was recently forced to give up her baby for adoption, a development that has left her deeply depressed. Realizing that Kelly Ann needs to get her mind off of the maternal loss, randy Father Steve (Peter Capaldi) suggests that the depressed girl and her friends set out on a leisurely trip through the highlands. When Kelly Ann discovers an abandoned baby in a castle crypt, however, the group becomes prey for a vicious Shadow Beast with a particularly hearty appetite. Now, their only hope of living through the night is to slay the beast while they still have the chance. Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

April 12, 2009: I'm sorry, did I just watch a comedy thinking I was getting a horror flick. I guess my mistake came from the supposed association with the special effects wizard that also did the truly fantastic werewolves from Dog Soldiers. I absolutely cannot believe Bob Keen was the craftsman of these laughable, awkward, rottweilers-on-steriod-puppets. And such an original plot, a big & nasty slaughtering promiscuous teenagers out in the frightening dark woods right after they have been intimate. In closing, take even mixtures of bad acting, bad directing, bad story, bad cinemitography (near the end it looked like they ran out of film and spliced in a piece of home-movie quality) and pathetic speciial effects and you have here a "perfect storm" of cimenamtic trash.

I Also Recommend: An American Werewolf In London, Le Pacte des Loups, Dog Soldiers.
