In this thriller, a baby-sitter is terrorized by an anonymous telephone caller who turns out to be a particularly persistent serial killer. When a stranger calls to ask, "Have you checked the children lately?" teenaged sitter Jill Johnson (Carol Kane) is understandably spooked. After a series of increasingly creepy calls culminates in a request for "your blood...all over me," Jill learns from the police operator that the man is calling from inside the house. One narrow escape and two dead children later, the police capture British maniac Curt Duncan (Tony Beckley). Several years later, the killer escapes from a mental institution and plagues Tracy (Colleen Dewhurst), a hard-drinking New Yorker. Foiled by John Clifford (Charles Durning), the same cop who investigated the original case, Duncan sets his sights back on his original victim, Jill Johnson, who, now married and out to dinner with her husband, has left her own young children at home -- with a baby-sitter. When a Stranger Calls helped inspire Drew Barrymore's famous opening scene in Wes Craven's Scream. July 08, 2008: i keep hearing that many prefer the original than the remake. i saw the remake first and thought it was okay. then i saw the original and have to say that the original wasn't that good..at least the other half of the movie. the beginning is the only highlight of the film and probably most memorable. so i'm wondering how can you hate the remake if you didn't like i don't know give it a chance or something. honestly i didn't like the original but just the beginning. its alright if you don't like the original but the remake. not all horror movie originals aren't always better but can be equally good like the hills have eyes and its remake, ringu and the ring etc. basically its about jill the babysitter is harassed by creepy phone calls by a stranger and the mystery is revealed about the stranger and the calls. still bugs me that the remake trailer gave that away. talk about stupid, its like they think we the viewer hasn't heard of the original or even if some haven't then we need to see all the scary parts blah blah. when it comes to trailers they always overdo it. can't they just make a good trailer without ruining the movie? Ever wonder what happens after Jill after the babysitting ordeal? in this they show you and i thought that that should be in the remake but its the other way around. the last shot in the ending is seriously creepy and darkly haunting.

April 27, 2008: have you checked the children the stranger asks babysitter jill over the phone. i'm sure any horror or non horror viewer will know of this film and of course its remake of the same name. this here is the original and starts off with the babysitting to remember and years later after the ordeal. if you've seen the remake first then this then you'll notice some of the same things and completely new things. the suspense was good especially with that creepy music. is it just me or did the stranger killer's face remind anyone of james marsters? lastly it was okay and makes you wonder babysitting all the while answering the phone. you also can't forget the classic quotes from your blood all over me to the calls are coming from inside the house!! Black Christmas anyone?
