Classics!by LTB88

August 22, 2009: Some of these movies are absolute classics! I'm glad I had to opportunity to see them (I've read some of the books but never saw the movies.) I was able to watch a couple of them with my college-aged son. We had to laugh at the young versions of Hollywood greats like Charles Bronson and Clint Eastwood. Donald Southerland has changed very little, both in unique looks as well as freaky parts played. It's worth the price to get these movies. There are some with better f/xs and maybe even better storylines. But everyone should see these movies at least once. It is also nice to see war movies without the gore, extreme language and in-your-face sex. These are movies I can comfortably watch with my teenaged sons, without feeling like I'm contributing to the delinquency of minors.

They aren't called the Greatest Generation for nothing!by Cheerokee72

August 21, 2009: I had seen 3 of the 4 movies before (Battleground was new to me). It was interesting to see them from a vantage point of more maturity and with a greater knowledge and appreciation of the history of WWII. To see the resourcefulness of men in desperate situations, & the ability to do whatever it took to whip a ragamuffin bunch of ne'er-do-wells into an outfit (without worrying about anyone's "rights" being violated) defined a time we no longer live in. The discussions generated by each of these movies pointed out the differences between the people, politics, & mores of two generations, to the detriment of the present generation. Lots of action, lots of blood & guts, and you could always tell who the good guys were!
