The first, Come Fly with Me follows Michael as a young man in Wilmington, North Carolina, through his college years at UNC and the earliest phase of his Bulls stint. Michael Jordan's Playground begins on court with Jordan in a flurry of stunning moves, then eventually becomes a drama about a teen outsider who ends up miraculously getting coaching tips from Jordan. Effectively Jordan's pre-Space Jam acting debut, this program is intercut with clips from Jordan's own career fleshing out the lessons, and it's heartening to see the man affirming his stature as a role model. Air Time becomes more meditative, finding the 6'6" shooter at one of his career peaks with the Dream Team (stars of the 1992 Barcelona Olympics) and dominating against the Knicks during the playoffs. Above and Beyond -- like Playground -- digs deeply and insightfully into Jordan's mental game, steering the viewer almost arthroscopically through his first retirement, the interesting career asterisk in professional baseball, and even the death of his father. It affirms that, in addition to the man's unrivaled skills, so much of Jordan's talent come from a singular, Zen-like mental balance. His Airness is the most comprehensive overview of the set, tracking Jordan's life and career from boyhood exploits until 1999, his final year (it was thought) in the NBA.
