    After the release of their 1997 album Pop, Irish rockers U2 staged their biggest and most ambitious stage show to date, the Popmart tour, which found the band using broad theatrics and elaborate effects to bring a witty, intelligent, but emotionally compelling message to stadium-size audiences. This home video release was taped during the Popmart tour's Mexico City date, as the band plays a 23-song, career-spanning set.     July 18, 2001: This is U2's concert for their highly underrated Pop album. It is probably the most full blown concert I've ever seen, U2 spared no expense on this tour. The back of the stage is a 55 foot tall, 170 foot wide video screen that you have to see to believe. The show opens with a remix of the band M's 80's hit song Pop Musik, followed by a high engery version of Mofo. The band then plays an updated version of their very first hit, I Will Follow. As in most of their concerts, they have a small stage in the middle of the audience in which they can play a semi acoustic set. After that they play THE BEST version of Bullet the Blue Sky I've ever heard. And for those that thought the Pop album was lacking in density and emotion need only watch the live version of Please to have their minds changed. After a short break the band re emerges from a giant mirrored lemon to break into the song Discotheque on the small stage in the middle of the audience. Back to the main stage and the band plays a great version of Hold Me Thrill Me Kiss Me Kill Me and a very emotional version of One in which Bono fights to keep himself composed. It's great that even though the concert is bursting with eye candy, the audience and band remain intimately close. As far as U2 concert videos go, I still enjoy the Zoo TV tour Live in Sydney a little bit more, but this is one you have to see to believe, especially with the larger-than-life-itself video screen.
