June 07, 2008: I date myself here but I loved that they had a song from "Boy" on this DVD. Having seen the band only once, "Pop tour" I wish I could have been at this concert! Creative theatrical performance with unique delivery of multiple classic songs captured with terrific camera work. The special feature "Unforgettable Fire" documentary was great too - U2 Pre-Joshua Tree awoke a few memories!

December 18, 2003: A very personalized concert and most of Ireland was there. As the site of one of their earlier album's recordings, they invited their 20 year devotees back to where it all began - and because Bono buried his father a day previous, emotion was especially high. He really personalizes this concert to thank his family and his fans. There's references to politics and European sport that Americans might not understand, but can definitely appreciate. They include in their set an early single from 'Boy' that Irish folk would have known from their early local pub tours, but was not a state-side single. Otherwise, the set was quite similar to the Elevation tour, which is why I didn't give it perfect stars. There is no terrible U2 performance, and with this 'Sort of Homecoming' after 20 years, it's filled with toe-tapping, sing along hits. Bono has acquired a gift, maybe from Paul O, to have the crowd vocally mix his song into the next to enliven its intensity. Very effective and definitely worth $16 - it's like you're there, but without airfare and stay, you've saved a couple hundred quid. I am sad that I missed this piece of history live, but it's the next best thing.
