The banal and the bizarre are exquisitely intertwined in Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me, David Lynch's prequel to his groundbreaking TV serial, Twin Peaks. Darker and more violent than its TV predecessor, Fire Walk with Me follows the last days of Laura Palmer (Sheryl Lee), a small-town Oregon high school student whose murder -- and its subsequent investigation -- provided the main tension in the TV series. The film reprises a number of main characters from the show, including FBI Special Agent Dale Cooper (Kyle MacLachlan), whose offbeat good-guy persona bound the series together. But Fire Walk with Me is ultimately Laura Palmer's story, and Lee gives a riveting performance as a teen torn between innocence and lust who is victimized by a mysterious sexual abuser. A plethora of eccentric characters swirl around Palmer: Their similarly fractured psyches provide fodder for the director’s characteristic exploration of unspeakable secrets lurking beneath the mundane fabric of small-town life. Lynch's outrageously strange vision, rife with dream symbols, is perfectly complemented by a haunting score from his regular musical collaborator, composer Angelo Badalamenti. The result is an intense, head-spinning psychological thriller -- darkly sexual, breathtakingly enigmatic, and quintessentially Lynchian. Gregory Baird, Barnes & Noble

January 14, 2009: I viewed this film last night and was blown away. The feature is definitely a Lynch classic in my mind. The film has all the Lynch elements; suspense, humor, music, intense visuals, and much much more. I've seen my fair share of Lynch films and have discussed his work widely, but for some odd reason, this film fell through the discussions. The film is a prequel to the television series, which I've yet to see. I didn't know what to expect from it, especially since I hadn't heard much about the film. There is a Blue Velvet'esque quality to it, in the sense of the feature being a mystery, but unlike some of Lynch's other films, you can actually follow the story. I was suprised at the long range of cameos, including Lynch himself playing a Deaf FBI agent. By the end of the film, I was extremely satisfied and am glad I made time to watch it, I'm definitely interested in watching the Television Series and can only hope that it would be just as good, but then again it is Television and this film is definitely a rated "R" picture. Check it out, you won't be disappointed...

I Also Recommend: Mulholland Dr., Blue Velvet, Inland Empire.

October 11, 2005: Twin peaks,Fire walk with me, the prequel to the best tv show ever ,is a film you eather like or dislike. A lot of critics hated the film back in 1992 when it came out.Now 13 years later some say it is one of Lynch's best.It is one of the most unike films i have ever seen.If you have seen the series you know underneith the smalltown of Twin peaks is something very ugly hidden. This movie shows it.In full glory.A must watch for Twin peakys an Lynchfans. The haunting music by Angelo Badalamenti is to die for to.I think this film is also a sequel to the series in a weird way. Performances, specialy by Ray wise and Sheryl Lee,are outstanding.Cooper,Kyle Maclachlan, returns to,only a short apperance though. But this is Laura Palmers story, the nightmare is no longer hidden. This is not only a film, it is a feeling. Briliant.
