Editorial Reviews

Twenty-five years after their hugely popular love-hate relationship was finally resolved in marriage, we revisit the happy couple for a one-off special as they prepare to celebrate their Silver wedding anniversary. Aristocratic Audrey (Penelope Keith) has resumed her imperious command over the estate, the farms, and the neighborhood, while dashing self-made businessman Richard (Peter Bowles) has, to all appearances, settled down to the life of the definitive gentleman farmer. While Audrey's old social circle have all been bought up by the big food syndicates and fled, they are proud survivors. The scene is set for a grand party, until an extraordinary confession gets in the way. With the help of her long-suffering school friend Marjory (Angela Thorne), a fearless Audrey goes into battle to defend a community, safeguard 400 years of history, and save her marriage. March 16, 2009: Peter Bowles and Penelope Keith were as much fun as ever, and the supporting cast also, but the script was poor in some parts. Some individual scenes and events fit in well, but others really jarred, and kept me from getting as much enjoyment in this episode as the past series. The actors still sparkle together, but they needed a better writer.

October 22, 2008: The story was a bit weak and the jokes a bit forced. However, I still enjoyed the episode. It felt like visiting old friends while reliving with them the good old times. Good to see the Manor again.
