    Visual auteur Jonathan Glazer has only made a handful of music videos, but he is a director who favors quality over quantity. The videos included on this compilation, part of the ongoing Director's Label series, showcase a talent of undeniable creativity. Glazer's best-known video by far is Jamiroquai's "Virtual Insanity," an unforgettable, how'd-they-do-that clip featuring a couch as singer Jay Kay's dance partner. Equally impressive are Glazer's lesser-seen videos for UNKLE's "Rabbit in Your Headlights," Radiohead's "Karma Police" and "Street Spirit," Blur's "The Universal," and Nick Cave's "Into My Arms." Also included are many of his award-winning television commercials (the Guinness ad, "Surfer," is a knockout), clips from his two feature films, Sexy Beast and Birth, and a 56-page booklet filled with interviews and artwork. Don't skip the very funny, self-effacing intros to the DVD menus, where Glazer's true inspiration is revealed -- he pays a tramp (actually British comedian Paul Kaye) to come up with the award-winning concepts for his videos.     June 20, 2009: The "Work of Director..." series is a must have for any videophile. And Jonathan Glazer's work stands at the pinnacle of this group of talented directors not only for his unique and stylistic approach to music videos, but also for the musical groups he works with. This DVD would be worth the price just for the music in it alone; from Radiohead (he also works with Thom Yorke on "Rabbit In Your Headlights"), Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds to Massive Attack. The collection of commercials is an homage to a visionary in a medium that is seldom looked upon as an art form. While the majority of these commercials never made it to American television, their impact is reflective in how the products are presented in our market to this very day. I enjoyed the honesty of both Jonathan Glazer and the others who joined in the commentary found on this DVD. A prime example of this is Nick Cave's very strong opinion of how Glazer's video for "Into My Arms" is completely wrong for the song. It is very rare treat that a director would allow such dissenting opinions attached to his work and I feel that only adds to the strength of this collection. In addition to the video clips and commentary (which also includes scenes from Sexy Beast and Birth), the DVD packaging has a series of sketches, notes and pictures taken by the Glazer that add to the voyeuristic look into this brilliant director's mind. A great purchase for any fan of Jonathan Glazer and a perfect vehicle for inspiring the inner artist in us all.
