Editorial Reviews

In Nicolas Roeg's adaptation of Roald Dahl's novel The Witches, a young boy is vacationing at the seaside with his grandmother when he discovers that the hotel he is staying at is hosting a convention of witches. Eavesdropping on the witches, he learns that the Grand High Witch (Anjelica Huston) has devised a plan to turn all of the children in England into mice. With creature-effects by Jim Henson's Creature Shop, The Witches was the last film Henson worked on before passing away in 1990. Matthew Tobey, All Movie Guide

August 12, 2008: This is another creepy and weird movie and seriously Angelica Huston was very very creepy and unrecognizable with all the makeup after removing her mask. I kept thinking how is this for kids. So it might be for kids older. The kid and grandma were nice and that story about the girl being trapped in the painting freaked me out when i was a kid.

November 03, 2007: This is a fabulous adaptation of Roald Dahl's classic and features an ingenious performance by the great Anjelica Huston. It never gets old for me. The filmmakers didn't treat this like they were making a family film. They made a movie that pulled no punches and is incredibly entertaining.
