    Editorial Reviews

The Rat Pack for the longhaired set -- Jose Carreras, Plácido Domingo, and Luciano Pavarotti -- have done it again for the holidays, giving opera fans everywhere a reason to cheer. Originally joining forces in Rome in 1990 to support Carreras's comeback concert after his bout with leukemia, the Tenors this year embarked on a world tour to consolidate their position as the standard bearers for classical music and vocal virtuosity. This Christmas tape finds them in peak form, tackling a surprising breadth of material, from the spiritual ("Cantique de Noel") to the secular traditional ("White Christmas") to the downright weird (a surprisingly resonant, full-choir effort at John Lennon's "Happy Christmas/ War Is Over"). With the Vienna Symphony and the Gumpoldskirchner Spatzen Children's Choir backing them up, the Three Tenors soar ever higher. Eddy Crouse, Barnes & Noble
