Editorial Reviews

This three-part BBC adaptation of author Anne Brontė's novel The Tenant of Wildfell Hall features Tara Fitzgerald as Helen Graham, a pensive woman seeking a way out of her miserable marriage to Arthur Huntingdon (Rupert Graves), a rakish alcoholic who tricked Helen into marrying him before his bad behavior became outwardly evident. Meanwhile, farmer Gilbert Markham (Toby Stephens) becomes increasingly attracted to Helen, whom he is led to believe is a widow. ~ Tracie Cooper, All Movie Guide All Movie Guide

December 16, 2008: the movie is supposed to be somewhat dark. the main character runs away from her abusive husband, trying to protect their sons future. although this happens in the modern world, it was extremely more difficult in the old days. after the movies mysterious beginning, it goes back in time to replay a heart wrenching life and help explain the current situation. the book was ahead of its time, addressing domestic violence, discrimination against women, addictions/drug abuse, proper courtship, social structures, the importance of religion in all aspects of life, among other things.. a time when morals mattered. excellent.

August 03, 2008: I have to say that I was disappointed with this adaptation of Anne Bronte's fantastic novel! Don't get me wrong. The actors were great and played their parts well, but the writers left out important subplots. Many of the scenes that were added were quite tasteless.
