In this Bill Murray-driven remake of the 1946 Tyrone Power film, Murray plays the lead, Larry Darrel, a World War I survivor who takes off on a foreign trek to discover the meaning of his life. Apparently Murray said he'd film Ghostbusters only if Columbia would let him do Razor's Edge. ~ All Movie Guide All Movie Guide

March 07, 2006: A beautiful haunting score that stays with you years afterward. Beautiful photography, and exotic locations. Plus Delholm Elliot and Theresa Russell. The script has more depth to the characters than the 1946 original...BUT....with all this going for it, all that's missing to make this a great movie is Tyrone Power.

December 07, 2003: Missing the tone of the book almost entirely, this boring re-make of the 1946 classic and novel by Somerset Maugham stars a badly mis-cast Bill Murray in the lead role. Don't take my word for it, the studio didn't want him to do it either, but this was during the Ghostbusters era and Murray had the power at the time to greenlight anything he wanted to do because of his box office status. Unfortunately, he forced this ill-conceived project into production. He's become a great character actor in recent years but this film, while well intentioned, is a disaster. Katherine Hicks and Denholm Elliot are wonderful actors but also miscast. None have the weight needed to pull off unsympathetic characters like these. See the original with Tyrone Power or read the book. You can thank me later for saving two plus hours of your time.
