Editorial Reviews

Paige hails from Wisconsin, Charles from Denmark. She drives a truck, he a Lamborghini and "mother's limo." She's a farm girl; he is a Danish prince (albeit incognito). This is the stuff of which Cinderella stories and fairy-tale romances are made, especially in Hollywood. The enchanting Julia Stiles is well on her way to becoming a screen queen herself; she does not stoop to conquer an audience's heart. Paige is the quintessential Stiles character: a beautiful, smart, and independent pre-med student with "a life plan." Luke Mably's Eddie, on the other hand, is "a royal pain," thoughtless and arrogant. But when the two are paired off as lab partners, their chemistry is undeniable. All that's left is for them to fall in love, for Paige to discover Eddie's true identity and break up with him, have a change of heart and follow him to Denmark, be treated shabbily by the queen, win her over, and have to choose between monarchial matrimony or her dream of being a doctor (among this DVD's extended and deleted scenes is an alternate ending more bittersweet than the storybook theatrical version). Some mild sexual situations and scenes in which the characters consume alcohol earn this film its PG rating. But dreamy-eyed teens will be happy ever after with this irresistible romance.
