The Prince & Me was a fairy-tale romance with the quintessential Hollywood happy ending, as Wisconsin girl Paige Morgan found true love with Edvard, the Prince of Denmark. Not so fast! A funny thing happens on the way to the royal wedding. The aspiring doctor and future queen is a commoner; Prince Albert, a feckless distant relative, schemes to exploit this fact and install his own daughter, Princess Kirsten, on the throne (ancient doctrine states that Edvard must marry a woman of noble birth, or abdicate). Kirsten is Edvard's lifelong friend, but she's really a mean girl out to sabotage Paige ("You're a little out of your league here," she sneers). This downsized direct-to-video sequel is not nearly the glittering prize that was the first film, but it should win the hearts of hopeless romantics. Reprising his role as Edvard, Luke Mably is the sole returning cast member, with Kam Heskin stepping into the Cinderella shoes previously worn by Julia Stiles. As Kirsten, Clemency Burton-Hill makes a suitable girl-you-love-to-hate, making her predictable filth-splattered comeuppance a pleasure to behold. Donald Liebenson, Barnes & Noble
