Critically acclaimed for its portrayal of defense attorneys striving to lead ethical lives in an unethical arena, The Practice quickly became the cure for the common courtroom drama when it premiered in 1997. From David E. Kelley -- the creative mind behind L.A. Law, Picket Fences, Ally McBeal, and many other TV hits -- The Practice offered audiences a realistic and gritty look at the practice of law, as well as the lighthearted and offbeat moments typical of Kelley's writing. Bobby Donnell (Dylan McDermott) is a young, passionate lawyer struggling to keep his small Boston law firm afloat. Full of idealistic dreams of defending the innocent, he quickly realizes that being a good defense lawyer is more challenging than he ever expected. Along with associate attorneys Lindsay Dole (Kelli Williams), Ellenor Frutt (Camryn Manheim), Eugene Young (Steve Harris), Jimmy Berluti (Michael Badalucco), and assistant Rebecca Washington (Lisa Gay Hamilton), he walks a fine line between his own principles and his legal obligations to his clients. Striving for justice, Bobby squares off against such formidable adversaries as tenacious and sexy prosecutor Helen Gamble (Lara Flynn Boyle), a relationship that catches fire both in and out of court. July 11, 2009: I highly recommend The Practice. This was one of the best and most well written shows on television. There are few series that have followed that meet this level. The DVD release of Season One is just not enough. I am anxiously waiting for the release of the entire DVD series; I hope the entire series will be released soon, so I can purchase it as well.
