Editorial Reviews

Bubbles, Blossom, and Buttercup flex their muscles in their first feature film! If you're not familiar with Cartoon Network's phenomenally popular animated series, fear not, as this movie fleshes out the Girls' back-story. The setting is Townsville, a city in serious, serious trouble. A mild-mannered man of science, Professor Untonium, sets out to save the lawless, crime-ridden town by creating in his lab "perfect, normal, everyday little girls" to inspire the populace. What he gets is the Powerpuff Girls, who, thanks to the accidental addition of Chemical X, have unique powers. Not knowing their own strengths, the Girls unwittingly wreak havoc on Townsville during a simple game of tag, which hilariously escalates into a maelstrom of destruction. Shunned as freaky bug-eyed weirdo girls, the disheartened trio are exploited by an evil former lab monkey, Mojo Jojo, who plans to rule Townsville with the unwitting Girls' help. Like the Powerpuffs themselves, this movie is just the right blend of sugar and spice. The PG rating, for near-relentless action and intense fight scenes, is appropriate. Wonderfully stylized animation and sly-witted spoofing of the superhero genre make this feature a cheeky delight. Donald Liebenson, Barnes & Noble

The Powerpuff Girls are my favorite heroes!by ProfessionalBookNerd

January 31, 2009: Okay, so, first thing's first: You'll like the movie if you like the Powerpuff Girls.

I think the Powerpuff Girls are kind of a love or hate thing, no inbetween. I happen to be one of the people who love the Powerpuff Girls. This is not a cartoon for kids. It's a cartoon for adults or highschoolers at the youngest, mostly because there are so many jokes that kids just wouldn't get. After all, when Craig McCracken made the Powerpuff Girls (originally the Whoopass Girls), he was targeting college age viewers. It was a surprise to him when kids liked the show too. Anyway, if you love the show, you'll love the movie. If you haven't seen the show, go rent some episodes before watching the movie. If you like what you see, rent (or buy) the whole series. Then see the movie. The show is golden, and the movie is just icing on the cake. And icing alone just gives you a tummy ache. You need the cake.

Okay, end of rant. I love the movie, but I love the show more.

Worst animated movie ever!by Anonymous

April 19, 2005: I do NOT recommend this movie! The Powerpuff Girls must be one of the worst animated show on Cartoon Network! First off, this movie was unbelievably boring, slow-paced, and the plot line was weak as ever! The humor was so corny it was not even funny! In spite of all that, there was a LOT of violence... I'm not talking about Saturday cartoon violence here. I'm talking about a lot of punching, kicking, slapping, stomping, socking, biting, hitting... the WORKS! It drove me crazy. The women were drawn as wearing skimpy and tight clothes. Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup (the Powerpuff Girls) were totally obnoxious... I didn't even feel sorry for them when the citizens rejected them and called them "Freaky Bug-eyed Weirdo Girls." Buttercup was a bad role model, because she was so mean to her sisters. Also, when she heard the people of Townsville screaming in pain because they were being attacked by the crazed monkeys, she said, "Who cares?" Also, Mojo Jojo, the crazy monkeys, and other villains are "scary-looking" (in a preschooler's mind) and would scare them. A lot of the scenes are very dark and would cause a child 6 and under to feel insecure. There was a lot of name-calling in the movie, and Blossom blew a raspberry at Bubbles once. There are a lot of bad influences presented in this movie, and I don't recommend it for anyone!
