Editorial Reviews

This made-for-TV drama, based on the book by Earl Hamner Jr., was the basis for the popular long-running television series The Waltons. In this opening installment, the Waltons, led by matriarch Olivia Walton (Patricia Neal), spend an anxious 1933 Christmas Eve together as they await the arrival of their father during a snowstorm. The film won the Golden Globe Award for "Best TV-Movie" that year, and Neal won the "Best Actress" award for her performance. Bernadette McCallion, All Movie Guide

December 10, 2003: This movie is one of the holiday greats. But, I'll admit, when I was younger, when my mom would say, 'Hey, we're going to watch the Homecoming' I would scream and run from the room (not the case any more!) but when I was in 9th grade (I'm a big ol' Sophomore now!) and I've gotten hooked on the Waltons, I watch it every afternoon when I get home from school (darn Hallmark, they took it off at 5 and put Little House on...I curse them!)This movie is still, and always will be a favorite in my parents house, and in my house when I get older.
