The third and final season of The Greatest American Hero finds mild-mannered high-school teacher Ralph Hinkley (William Katt) continuing to battle evil and right wrongs on behalf of the FBI with the help of a super-powered flying red suit, presented to him by space aliens in Season 1. Those selfsame aliens make a return appearance in the first episode of Season 3, to save Ralph's life after he has rescued FBI agent Bill Maxwell (Robert Culp) from a band of neo-Nazis. The good news is that Ralph is finally given a new book of instructions for the suit to replace the one he lost in the series' opener. The bad news is that this book also disappears before Ralph can fully grasp the extent of the powers he has been given vis-à-vis his remarkable red wardrobe. Some changes have been made for the series' valedictory season. After suffering through one too many "suit scenarios," Ralph's attorney girlfriend, Pam Davidson (Connie Sellecca), considers ending the relationship, but she changes her mind and agrees to marry him (whereupon her character name is altered to "Davidson-Hinkley"). Also, the group of remedial-education students who in the past have popped up to help Ralph in his various exploits have been more or less written out of the series, though three of them -- Rhonda (Faye Grant), Cyler (Jesse D. Goins), and Rodriguez (Don Cervantes) -- continue to make appearances from time to time. All Movie Guide

July 26, 2005: Greatest American Hero Season Three has finally arrived. A television show created by 80's television icon Stephen J. Cannell that lived anything but an easy going life-span. The series was cut short it's first season, and then re-upped for a full second season, and finally laid to rest only 13 episodes into what would become it's third and final season. Much of the controversy surrounding the series stemmed from a pending lawsuit filed by DC comics, claiming that she show's existence alone infringed upon the Superman franchise, seemingly under pressure, ABC execs canned the show prematurely. The DVD also includes Four never before aired episodes, along with cameos by Andre the Giant, and Bob Saget among others. Personally, I absolutely loved this series, I own the first and second season DVD's and am very much looking forward to the third and final, including the unaired episodes. The series pokes good natured fun at the superhero genre, by exploring what it would be like for a regular average Joe (or Ralph) to stumble on extroardinary powers (that require an instruction manual) and in typical klutz fashion to lose that manual, and have a go at it anyway. Watching this show is a bit of a time warp, it definitely brings you back to the family oriented programming of the 80's, the harshest language is "damn" and it is very seldom used.
