    Editorial Reviews

The owner of a financially foundering skin-flick production company decides that the only way to save it is to put on a Busby Berkeley-esque pornographic musical -- sort of a Broadway meets Times Square affair. Ribald humor, bawdy songs and plenty of skin abounds in this sophomoric satire that while unabashedly trashy, has developed a bit of a cult following. Songs include: "The First Nudie Musical," "The Lights and the Smiles," "Lesbian Butch Dyke," "Five Dancing Dildos," "Perversion," "Honey, What Ya Doin' Tonight," "I Don't Have to Hide Anymore," "Where Is a Man." September 02, 2002: This limp rag of a movie put everyone to sleep ... there's no sex worth mentioning, there's no comic timing, and endless repeating dialogue that makes you want to throttle these people for wasting your time.

July 03, 2002: When this film was first released in 1976 I was living in Portland, Oregon one of the few cities it was first released in. A small group of us howled throughout the film. I saw it about 12 times after, bought the soundtrack on LP and thought I would have to be content with a fading video tape from 20 years ago. Not anymore! This little film is not for everyone. If you are faint of heart and cannot see female and male nudity then you might want to bypass it. However, the nudity is not the main focus of the film. It concerns a bankrupt movie studio that is trying to ward off its creditors by making the first porno musical movie. Bruce Kimmel, writer, music & lyrics and director, plays the nerdy nephew who is foisted on the downtrodden studio to get this movie shot. Kimmel, Cindy Williams, Stephen Nathan and a great supporting cast make this a very merry romp. The score is quite good...very much like a Broadway musical. On the DVD the commentaries are wonderful and the first pressings include a CD of the soundtrack. The packaging is excellent and only the most dour will fail to laugh. Guaranteed to lighten your heart.
