    Editorial Reviews

In The Dead Zone's premiere season, Johnny Smith (Anthony Michael Hall) awoke from a six-year coma with the psychic ability to see into the life of anyone he touched. While he was "out," his fiancée married someone else -- so now he faces a solitary, uncertain life with powers he can’t understand. In the middle of Season 2 the show moved from cable’s Sci-Fi Channel to the USA Network, and this set collects the entire 19-episode, dual-network run. In "Valley of the Shadow," the season opener, Smith is still shaken by his visions of an apocalypse, and he continues to follow Senate candidate Greg Stillson (Sean Patrick Flanery) in the hope of learning more from him. Stillson, whom Smith shadows on and off throughout the season, plays a large part in the highlight episode "Zion," which served as the show’s "finale" on Sci-Fi. The episode revolves around Bruce (John L. Adams), Smith’s personal trainer and primary confidant, who returns to Indianapolis to attend his father’s funeral and winds up in an alternate reality where an evil Johnny stalks Stillson. "Playing God" reunites Hall with Breakfast Club costar Ally Sheedy, who is destined to become the heart donor for her dying brother -- something that Johnny foresees but can't prevent. And in the season-ending "Visions," viewers finally get a glimpse into the identity of the scarred man in black who has been haunting Johnny. Christina Urban, Barnes & Noble
