Editorial Reviews

Jay Underwood plays an autistic boy who provides a source of fascination to a new family in town. Never uttering a sound, Underwood spends hours in his backyard, attempting to fly like the birds. Lucy Deakins, the daughter of the new family, befriends Underwood; she is encouraged by teacher Colleen Dewhurst to try to draw the boy out of his shell, and to keep a journal on the subject. Rendered unconscious in a fall, Deakins dreams that Underwood can fly. The boy is suddenly whisked away to an institution, and Deakins despairs that she'll never see him again. January 28, 2008: i'm sure others like me had seen this little cute movie when we all were younger but years later forgot about it or remembered a scene or two but forgot the name. thus was the case with this movie. its one of the most under rated rated movies i've come by next to another favorite drop dead fred and ladyhawke. this is the story of a boy and his neighbor and a connection beyond friendship and how the boy dreams of flying. i was surprised that this was written AND directed by the original michael myers from halloween. seems that an actor can write a good story, example, bill paxton who i think written but directed frailty. this was a good movie and isn't like all those other weird movies that are today and trying to please a certain general audience too hard. with this it seems realistic and the performances were awesome especially the leads and fred savage who's just adorable especially max the dog. recommend this to any old or new fan. worth a check. a classic.

December 15, 2004: Me and my friends love lame movies, and this is our favorite. We laugh our heads off! So for all the rest of you lame 80's movies fans out there--you'll love it! This is also where I learned how to fold a paper airplane, haha. For the parents: there is one scene where the teenage girls get drunk, and you might want to fast-forward that. Also her kid brother cusses some. Other than that, good for the whole family!
