    Editorial Reviews

A dynamic star turn by Kevin Spacey enlivens The Big Kahuna, a modest, character-driven drama that makes incisive comments on the take-no-prisoners mentality that dominates much of American business today. Roger Rueff's script, adapted from his own play, focuses on three sales representatives who've opened a hospitality suite at the hotel playing host to a convention of manufacturers. Mercurial, fast-talking Larry Mann (Spacey) and melancholy, disillusioned Phil Cooper (Danny DeVito) are desperate to land a big account, but inexperienced newcomer Rob Walker (Peter Facinelli) is the only one who's actually met the executive they need to sign, and he'd rather talk religion than business. As directed by theatrical veteran John Swanback, The Big Kahuna echoes such classic dramas as Glengarry Glen Ross and Death of a Salesman, stripping from its characters the veneer of careerist hucksterism to peer at the wounded, vulnerable souls beneath. Devoid of mechanical plot contrivances, it's a quietly powerful film that will haunt viewers long after the end credits have rolled. Ed Hulse, Barnes & Noble

May 22, 2008: takes place mostly in a hotel room and some pretty good dialogue. this is about 3 guys and trying to make a deal with an important person and sends one of their own and awaits for his return and the other 2 talks about stuff from life and etc. spacey was hilarious, devito was awesome and facinelli was quite good and not only looked but sounded a little like tom cruise. recommend the film.

December 27, 2001: Despite its simple setting and short character list, The Big Kahuna is indeed a pleasant surprise. Kevin Spacey is at his best: candid, ruthless, and headstrong. Danny DeVito plays a sober counterpart to Spacey's derisive edginess. The youngster, Peter Facinelli, portrays Rob Walker, the pivotal character who sparks the others' attitudes and prejudices, leading to the ''deep'' conversations that ultimately carry the film. In a sentence, watching The Big Kahuna is like sitting in the front row of an intimate theatre, witnessing a milestone production.
