Editorial Reviews

In Kevin Reynolds' The Beast, George Dzundza plays a cruel Russian tank commander who gets lost in the wilderness during the war in Afghanistan. As the enemy closes in, the glazed-eyed Dzundza must rely on his survival training to see him through this crisis. Meanwhile, one of Dzundza's men (Jason Patric), abandoned and left to die by his demonic commander, joins the Afghan cause. Filmed in Israel, The Beast (aka The Beast of War) was adapted from a play by William Mastrosimone. Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

April 28, 2009: THIS FILM TRYS TO DEPICT A MINI SAGA OF WHAT THE AFGHAN OCCAPTION BY SOVIET RUSSIA WAS LIKE. A WAR OF EXTERMINATION WHICH THE WORLD IN MY OPINION IS STILL FEELING THE EFFECT OF! THE FILM IS GOOD VIEWING BUT THE SCRIPT COULD BE MORE INTERESTING TO SHOW BETTER THE CAPABILITIES OF THE ACTORS WHO ARE MUCH BETTER THAN THEY WERE SHOWN TO BE IN THIS FILM.INEXPENSIVE DVD WHICH GIVES YOU VALUE FOR MONEY.

Excellent tank movie for those of us who have been thereby Anonymous

August 20, 2004: Hollywood usually messes up tactics and the true nature of soldiers in films like this. Well, which ever Israeli (where the film was made and where the Syrian tanks were liberated to make this film) soldiers trained these actors should be commended for showing them what being a tanker is really like. I like accuracy in war films, and this film is excellent for that. Also, this film does depict how horrible war is. The cruelty displayed by both sides can now be seen by Americans fighting in both Afghanistan and Iraq (been to the latter twice). If you want to see a war film that is truly horrifying and can really show you what it is like, then pick up The Beast.
