Editorial Reviews

From the mind of bestselling author Terry Pratchet comes this off-the-wall holiday film. In the parallel universe of Discworld, they don't celebrate Christmas. Instead, children look forward to December 32nd, also known as Hogswatchnight, when they'll receive gifts, not from Santa Claus, but from The Hogfather. However, this year, The Hogfather has disappeared, and there may be no Hogswatchnight. So, it's up to Death to assume the role and fulfill all of the children's wishes. Ian Richardson narrates. which to do first: read book or watch movie?by JamieSedai

August 08, 2009: I started reading the book and a little more than halfway thru decided to watch the movie. Of course, like most books gone movie, there are always some slight discrepancies. A few minor characters were missing, the plot didn't unfold quite the same way, but each item that was different, you know why they couldn't portray it the same way. Some things in a sci-fi book are better imagined by your mind.

After I finished watching the movie, I dove back into the book and was able to have a different perspective. This was the first Discworld movie I had watched and was excited to see how the characters, voices, races, and cities were portrayed. It was exciting to view the details. All in all: if you've read the book, the movie will provide fun enlightenment and spark conversation between readers. If you haven't read the book, it's a very entertaining, unique movie with comedy for both young and young at heart with some references especially comedic for adults (not mature, but just over kid's heads).

The one con or plus (depending on who you are I guess) is the length of the movie... It is extremely long! But divided into two parts.
