A joint effort of filmmakers McG, Eric Kripke, and Robert Singer, the weekly, hour-long series Supernatural starred Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki as Dean and Sam Winchester, the sons of a dogged and determined demon hunter. Since the death of his wife at the hands of a malevolent yellow-eyed demon, the elder Winchester refused to rest until he tracked down and vanquished other evil paranormal forces. While older son Dean willingly followed in his dad's footsteps, the young Sam was the rebel of the family, refusing to have anything to do with the supernatural and putting as much distance between himself and his father and brother as possible. But when his dad mysteriously vanished, Sam reluctantly teamed with Dean to carry on the family mission. Piling into their 1967 Chevy Impala, the Winchester boys tooled around the country investigating such familiar paranormal mythology, folklore, and urban legends as the Vanishing Hitchhiker, Bloody Mary, the Lover's Lane "Hook" Killer, and the Native American demon Wendigo, among many others. Essentially a male version of Buffy the Vampire Slayer -- with a few dashes of Scooby-Doo, The Hardy Boys, and Route 66 tossed in -- Supernatural was seen on Buffy's former home network the WB beginning September 13, 2005. August 19, 2009: Usually a TV show's first season is a process of it finding it's footing. Not so with Supernatural. As fasinating and creepy as the urban legends and myths are, this is at it's heart a story of two very different brothers. They are trying to reconcile a past that won't let them live in the present and looms over their future. The writing is sharp, the special effects top notch, and in the hands of Jensen and Jared, Dean and Sam are as complex and mysterious as the supernatural beings they hunt. The DVD extras are informative and a lot of fun. WARNING...this will lead to the purchases of seasons 2,3 and soon 4!

May 03, 2009: Watch one show and you'll be addicted! Don't believe me? Try it. This is a well written, tightly woven show that just keeps getting better and better each year. Jensen Ackles and Jared Padelicki are so believable as brothers that it's almost as if these parts were created for them. The direction is perfect and the story lines are a perfect mix of suspense, drama, humor and scary. Eric Kripke has a winner with this show.

I Also Recommend: Nightlife, Moonshine, Madhouse, Deathwish.
