    On the eve of his Hawaiian vacation, irresponsible high school teacher Mark Harmon is forced into teaching a summer school class. His students are all malcontents and layabouts with the standard repertoire of teenaged hangups and hostilities (two of the kids, who can't see enough slasher movies to suit them, are hilarious precursors to Beavis and Butt-Head). Harmon would rather spend his time with history teacher Kirstie Alley, but she doesn't think much of his laziness and lack of dedication.     December 30, 2008: If you grew up in the 80's then Summer School will hold a place in your heart. Mark Harmon shines as the teacher who doesn't want to teach a bunch of misfits who are too stupid to pass english and now they all must go to summer school. The premise is so 80's but the movie rules. Most of the best stuff is from the underrated Chainsaw and his buddy Dave. The movie is best when the class goes on all those crazy field trips, good $hit! Anyway go rent this if you want to see some good comedy.

    October 09, 2008: Mostly forgotten, this movie is quite different from the teen-oriented product of it's era. This isn't a jocks versus nerds movie, or a sex comedy (there is no nudity at all, for one thing).

    The usual cliches are mostly left alone, and that's probably because the story spends a lot of the time dealing with the two adult leads. Mark Harmon never became a big leading man after initially leaving TV, but he is likeable as a somewhat regressed gym teacher coerced into teaching summer school. Kirstie Alley isn't only his love interest, but presents a model for a more responsible but still approachable authority figure for him to emulate.

    The cast of students is depicted broadly, but they are all appealing and there isn't a "bad" character in the bunch. Instead of creating conflict amongst them to drive the story, they are pitted against their own underacheiving tendencies.

    Mild and enjoyable.
