Editorial Reviews

In Straight-Jacket, a blood-chilling tale in "Psycho" style, Robert Bloch modernizes the Lizzy Borden story. A wife (Joan Crawford) literally axes her cheating husband and his lover, witnessed by her three-year-old daughter. Mom is packed off to the insane asylum for 20 years before reuniting with the daughter (Diane Baker). From this point, the axe murders continue along a contrived plot intended to lead the audience astray until the mystery is solved. Crawford's strong performance and the excellently constructed suspense are the best elements of the film -- and the chopping saves the show when the plot tends to slow. September 26, 2009: If you've ever wondered what "Psycho" would be like with a female playing the Norman Bates character - wonder no longer - this film comes as close as possible, without being totally derivative (even though Robert Bloch wrote both screenplays). This film features a terrific performance by Miss Crawford as well as a great twist ending.

March 24, 2009: This is an absolutely cliff hanging story that'll have you on the edge of your seat! A softer, but more tantalizing feel of Physco enraptures you in this great film. I didn't see the end coming at all, and it held my attention constantly. Definitely a movie I'd recommend to family and friends. And it wasn't so horribly scary that I didn't sleep that night, but I'l never forget it.

I Also Recommend: Torn Curtain.
