Stephen King's "novelized" TV series is based on The Kingdom -- a soapy Danish miniseries from 1994 that blended drama with the paranormal element of ghosts -- created by filmmaking provocateur Lars von Trier. King had a hand in writing every episode of this Americanized version, which took to the air in March 2004. Jack Coleman stars as Peter, an artist who is admitted to Kingdom Hospital in a coma after being hit by a van. When Peter awakens, he discovers he can communicate with the spirits that inhabit the hospital. Diane Ladd portrays Sally Druse, a patient with psychic abilities who can also hear the spirits and persuades Dr. Hook (Andrew McCarthy) to help her identify the ghosts. The cast is rounded out by Ed Begley Jr. as hospital administrator Jesse James, and Bruce Davison as chief neurologist Dr. Stegman. King and co-writer Rick Dooling had even delivered the outlines for Season 2's scripts before an executive shakeup at ABC led to the cancellation of the series in July 2004. Fans will find all 13 episodes of the series in this set, including: "Death's Kingdom," wherein Druse holds a séance to find out who -- or what -- is haunting the hospital; "Hook's Kingdom," which finds the staff battling the violent spirit of a teenage boy; and "Heartless," in which the staff learns about the 1869 fire that killed a number of children on the hospital grounds. February 28, 2006: I thought kingdom hospital was great! but there were many errors in the making. lIke when peter is lying on the ground and antubis is watching a crow lands on peter but when you go back to peter's view its gone but back again its there. Also some of the acting was a bit iffy like how the little sounded a bit overdone and her crying sounded brutally fake alot of the times. But i did love the dark comedy and I thought Paul(kett turton) was brilliant. But because of americas similar expectations there was no 2nd season very dissapointing.

February 03, 2005: I loved Kingdom Hospitol, and was disappointed when there was no second season. The whole thing is just...yeah. there's something for everyone, and it's one of the funniest things to hit TV in years. I also enjoyed the reference to Insomia ( the BOOK, not the stupid Robin Williams movie). In one of the episodes, Paul calls someone 'shorts'. this is a reference to the fact that he is a long-time being.
