Stargate: SG-1 began airing July 27, 1997, as a serialized version of the surprise 1994 big-screen hit Stargate, featuring Kurt Russell and James Spader as Col. Jack O'Neill and Dr. Daniel Jackson, respectively. Richard Dean Anderson and Michael Shanks assume those roles in SG-1, with Amanda Tapping (as Maj. Samantha Carter) and Christopher Judge (Teal'c) rounding out the primary crew. The series called the subscription cable network Showtime home for its first five seasons and moved to the basic cable net Sci Fi Channel in 2002, where it remained until signing off in 2007. With 2006-7's Season 10, the series surpassed The X-Files as the longest-running consecutive sci-fi series ever (the longest-running sci-fi show, Britain's Doctor Who, has been on since 1963, but not every week). In Season 9 Anderson decided to move on from his role as Col. Jack O'Neill and was replaced by former Farscape lead Ben Browder as Lt. Col. Cameron Mitchell. Shanks (Dr. Daniel Jackson) left the show as well in Season 5, was replaced for a time by Corin Nemec as Jonas Quinn, and eventually returned in Season 7 to finish the series. This final DVD collection contains all 20 episodes of Season 10 starring Browder and the rest of the SG-1 crew facing intergalactic enemy the Ori. Fans of the series will be glad to know that the universe of SG-1 won't disappear after this final season: Producers are already filming two direct-to-DVD movies, Stargate: The Ark of Truth and Stargate: Continuum.
