    Editorial Reviews

The popular TV-series private eye Spenser (of Spenser For Hire) re-surfaces in this made-for-cable movie. Robert Urich returns to his role as the gumshoe. This time, Spenser comes to the aid of old flame Candy Sloane (Cynthia Dale), a reporter who needs Spenser's help and protection as she investigates a fraud ring. This drama was based on the book of the same name by Robert B. Parker. Bernadette McCallion, All Movie Guide

Spenser: for Hire - the Movie Collectionby Anonymous

December 30, 2007: A few years after ''Spenser: For Hire'' was cancelled by ABC, the Lifetime cable network (which was airing reruns at the time) commissioned four TV-movies based on original Robert B. Parker novels, and reuniting Robert Urich and Avery Brooks as Spenser and Hawk. All four of the movies are excellent adaptations of Parker's novels, and the interaction between co-stars Urich and Brooks -- part of what made the TV show so great -- is pitch perfect. Sadly, Urich's battle with cancer (and subsequent death several years later) meant recasting the role when A&E began making Spenser movies again. Still, hopefully the TV series will make it to DVD someday.
