Nipple-necks!by Anonymous

June 18, 2007: I remember fondly the carefree youth - me - that watched with intense fascination this stunningly visual extravaganza. I remember the countdown to the show, all the hype and hubub - I'm pretty sure it was on at least three T.V. Guides. And, for my money, it wasn't bad at all! Very enjoyable, actually. Kind of the pre(or is it post in view of the novel)-Starship Troopers. Made you feel strangely infatuated with the idea of joining up with any war giving organization and kicking the south end of a north bound alien. Each of the characters - postively Star Trek-ean in their diversity - had a story to tell, motive, and a background that enabled them to move freely as individuals and as a unit. I remember the female lead of the show being particularly ebullient about the fact that her character was not just someone's girfriend. And I remember Pags! The dude who got killed in the pilot who loved The Ramones, and who got a Hammerhead named "Pag's Revenge" in his honor. And then there was the guy who loved the Cubs, and didn't he love Shakespear too, and was really miffed that they censored it? And the nipple-neck! What an awesome concept! How their leader was one, and the one reprobate was one, too, and Shane's parents were killed by cyborgs? Or rogue tanks, as the nipple-necks were actually known. And why were the chiggers attacking in the first place? And remember the dude who hated pancakes and Johnny Cash but listened to it as he fell into a black hole!? And how cool were the starfighters they all tooled around in? And the lingo! "I'm going Elvis!" "Hack!" And the drill sergeant from Full Metal Jacket? Oh, he's there too, you bet! But there were so many questions I don't remember the answer to! Like, were the chiggers the first aliens encountered? Or were there others? And how is it that they had all those awesome space ships in the first place? And military ones at that? Was there some war prior to the alien attacks? In the process of writing this review, I now realize that I definately have to buy this DVD! And so do you! It's truly one of the more innovative - which often means short lived in TV land - sci-fi series.

Military Sci-fi at its finestby Anonymous

March 24, 2007: The series follows the exploits of a Marine unit in an intersteller war. It has a number of military and scientific errors, but it's very well done in terms of plot and characters. This show also does the best job of showing how war effects the people caught in it. The aliens are well done, with a distinct biology and culture. My only real complaint about the DVD set is its almost complete lack of extras. Given that this is it for the series, a interview with the creators or some cast and crew commentaries would have been nice. Still well worth getting, especially for this price.
