For those who live in the Sun Belt, a snow day is that miraculous event in which blizzards and snowdrifts close schools and afford children a precious day off. As one character notes here, anything can happen on a snow day. And for the Brandston family, it does. Ratings-impaired weatherman Tom Brandston (Chevy Chase), his workaholic wife Laura (Jean Smart), lovestruck teenage son Hal (Mark Webber), and plucky younger daughter Natalie (Zena Gray), who is determined to stop the dreaded Snowplow Man (Chris Elliot in the role he was born to play) from clearing the streets. Nickelodeon produced this PG-rated comedy, so expect plenty of slapstick, mild crudities, and adult bashing. The school's snow-hating principal takes some particularly frosty abuse. Among this film's quirky pleasures is the casting of proto-punk Iggy Pop as an ice-rink deejay who spins Al Martino records. No matter the season, Snow Day offers viewers a mindless vacation for 90 carefree minutes. Donald Liebenson, Barnes & Noble
