Editorial Reviews

An ex-convict is mysteriously drawn to two intriguing women after becoming involved in a car accident while passing through a sleepy Ontario town in director Marc Evans' enigmatic drama. Invited into the home of high-functioning autistic Linda (Sigourney Weaver) after getting into a car accident that involved Linda's daughter, ex-con Alex Hughes (Alan Rickman) does his best to gracefully accept Linda's selfless generosity. His situation grows increasingly complicated, however, when Alex finds the seductive allure of town sexpot Maggie (Carrie-Anne Moss) too powerful to resist. Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

March 03, 2009: Alan Rickman at his best! This shows that he more than just Severus Snape. Sigourney Weaver also turns in a nice performance.

May 30, 2008: A tragedy brings a stranger to a small Canadian town where he meets Sigourney Weaver's character -- who turns out to be a refreshingly, no, make that a painfully plain spoken autistic adult who has suffered a recent loss of a loved one. The stranger is forced to re-focus his reactions, and it is a delight to watch him and those around him struggle to adapt to a new and difficult situation. It pulls him and the rest of us out of our "comfort zones." The way the story develops around Sigourney's character's strange demands and habits are remarkable and endearing. I loved the capable way the stranger was forced to evolve -- as well as the way everyone did. This is a story that begins in tragedy, then takes a strange left turn into awareness, acceptance, forgiveness (the scene at the funeral with the truck driver is reminiscent of the last scene in Places in the Heart) and redemption. I loved it!
